Support and Care
If you are not a member of the British Association and would like to join, here’s an update on how we have been providing support.
British Association of Cannes 2022 review
Our Chairman’s report. Mark Nunn
2021 has seen the mass vaccination of huge numbers of people in France; it has seen us trying to live with the virus and it has seen the human race survive, overcome and power on but we cannot overlook countries and people who have not been so fortunate and have not had the same vaccination opportunities as ourselves
At the same time in France however, there has also been:
It is at times like these that organisations like the British Association are most needed – we are there to help those who maybe just need a bit of support, be that financial, emotional or just having somebody to talk to.
2021 saw us
So, what does 2022 hold for us?
We will continue to be a support group for our members, a network where best practices and ideas can be discussed, and where British people in need can seek support and help. This overall is our primary function and we see it as being as vital and important today as at any other time in our history.
Our AGM will be held on Friday 4th March at Midday at Holy Trinity Church, 2-4 Rue du Général Ferrié, 06400 Cannes. All are invited to attend. A light lunch will be served afterwards.
2022 marks the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee and we will be arranging a jubilee tea celebration – more details to follow.
Monthly lunches have started once again at various, local restaurants and if you are interested in attending these, please e-mail / contact us and we will put you on a mailing list.
We still feel that social activities should predominantly be demand led, however coming out of the days, weeks and months of isolation, quarantine and fear, social contact is vital and numerous people will have become less confident in going out and about and we realise that may need to contact members and ascertain what they want. If this is something you would like to help with, we’d love to hear from you: perhaps you would like to join the committee.
2022 membership subscriptions are now due, however as in 2021 we have kept the amount at just 10€ per person. You may ask what you are paying for if we are offering fewer functions, however we would ask you to remember the primary function of the British Association – support and welfare and this is available to all British Expats. We hope not, but this may be you at some stage, and if you are lucky enough to never need the support or welfare from the Association, then hopefully you will feel comforted you have contributed to help somebody else in need.
Our treasurer has requested that payments are made by cheque this year, payable to ‘British Association de Cannes’ and sent care of Giles Williams, to 2 Rue du General Ferrie, 06400, Cannes however if you are unable to pay by cheque and for future payments, I have attached our new RIB.
In the meantime, if you have any ideas about projects that the British Association could support, or functions that you would like to see us running, please let us know. We would welcome both more members and also more members interested in joining our committee.
I urge you all to stay safe, stay healthy and let’s hope that 2022 is a good and prosperous year for us all
Mark NUNN
